Animal Insurance (also called Livestock Insurance) is a type of insurance that provides financial protection to farmers and animal owners against the loss or death of their animals due to unexpected events.

The indigenous / crossbred milch animals, pack animals (Horses, Donkey, Mules, Camels, Ponies and Cattle/Buffalo Male), and other Livestock (Goat, Sheep, Pigs, Rabbit, Yak and Mithun etc.) will be under the purview of this component.

Any eventual loss of animal due to death.

All livestock owners are eligible for animal Insurance.

Yes, as per scheme guidelines, there is a limit on the number of animals that can be insured per beneficiary per household. A maximum of 10 Cattle Units is eligible for coverage under the scheme.
However, a beneficiary may insure more than 10 Cattle Units by paying the full premium without availing the benefit of subsidy.

1 Cattle Unit is as follows:

  • 1 Cattle Unit = 1 Large Animal (Cow / Buffalo, etc.)
  • 1 Cattle Unit = 10 Sheep / Goat
  • 1 Cattle Unit = 5 Rabbit / Pig

Yes, this insurance scheme is supported by the government.

An animal shall be insured at its current market value (sum insured). The market value of the animal to be assessed jointly by the beneficiary and the insurance company in the presence of a Veterinary Officer.

Premium share of beneficiary is 15% of total premium value.

1. Open and log in to the 1962/NDLM mobile application.
2. Click on the “Livestock Insurance” link available on the dashboard.
3. You will be redirected to the Pashudhan Bima Yojana Portal.
4. Register on Pashudhan Bima Yojana Portal using the NDLM-registered mobile number and one valid ear tag number of the animal.
5. Verify and confirm the communication address.
6. Select the livestock (Tag numbers) to be insured.
7. Submit the application form and proceed to the next stage for verification.
8. Farmers can log in Pashudhan Bima Yojana Portal using their NDLM-registered mobile number to track the application status.

The applicant must provide the NDLM-registered mobile number and one valid ear tag number of the animal.

1. Open and log in to the 1962/NDLM Mobile Application.
2. On the dashboard, click the "Livestock Insurance" button.
3. You will be redirected to the Pashudhan Bima Yojana Portal.
4. Log in using your NDLM-registered mobile number.
5. Click the "My Claims" button.
6. Enter the required claim details in the claim form.
7. Upload the necessary supporting documents, if applicable.
8. Review the information and click the "Submit" button to raise the claim.

The claim should be settled within 21-25 days after submission of all required documents.If an Insurance company fails to settle the claim within 21-25 days of submission of documents, the insurance company will be liable to pay, a penalty of 12% compound interest per annum to the beneficiary.
